 EXPLAINING LIFE DRAWING

Art is creativity.  That is a fact.  At the core of realism is drawing ability.  Art schools have a phrase, “If you are able to draw the human figure you can draw anything.” Some people want instant success, but no shortcuts here.  In the 1980’s a man on TV offered a quick way to paint landscapes.  Over and over rigid sameness of formula painting appeared. No need to study drawing or art fundamentals.  Alas, how many paintings would your children or relatives accept, if any, to hang on their walls?  How many people paint the same thing or copy photographs squared off to show where to put the lines?  Is this creativity?  The Masters squared off their drawings.  With the ability to draw, a photograph can be interpreted, created.

F-R Fine Arts is offering life drawing studio every Tuesday, 1-4 pm, with professional models and professional lighting until sometime in April.  Open studio means no instruction, but each time you draw you see more and your small motor skills increase. The price is $15.00, a bargain for what rewards can occur.  The first hour the model holds poses for 5 minutes each, as many as they can.  The second hour is for 15 minute poses; the third hour is two 20 or 25 minute poses. We try to have a male model one week  than a female model the next; and once a month is the long pose.  This is when the model takes short rests but returns to the same pose.  Many people will bring pastels, colored pencils, or something else with color, but not oil or acrylic paints.  This is drawing not figure painting and the studio is not set up for oil and acrylics.
